2024 in Review: Helping InfoSec Professionals Achieve Their Goals

As 2024 comes to a close, I wanted to share some insights from a year of coaching and mentoring individuals through TheDFIRReport’s Coaching & Mentoring Program. Through numerous one-on-one sessions, I’ve had the privilege of helping folks navigate their career challenges.

This blog post will include highlights from this year and discuss common patterns in the challenges many of my trainees struggled with. I hope to assist others facing similar difficulties through this type of sharing.

Information Overload

One of the most common challenges people faced was feeling overwhelmed by the vast amount of information available. If you’re feeling this way, you’re not alone. One of my mentees described it perfectly:

“There’s just too much to learn, and every time I master one thing, three new things pop up.”

What worked? Breaking things down. Instead of trying to learn everything at once, we found success in focusing on one specific area at a time. For example, one mentee dedicated an entire week…
